  Blue-tipped Dancer
            Argia tibialis (Rambur, 1842)

Range & Habitat:

Found in scattered locations throughout most of the state, it may be overlooked at other sites.

Description:

Males become mostly dark, with a bit of pruinosity on the lower portion of the thorax, a black abdomen with narrow basal rings on the segments and pruinose blue on S9 & 10.

Dusky Dancer is also dark, but the blue tip of the abdomen is replaced by small blue spots on S8 & 9

Usually perches on the ground, occasionally on t-shirts, as the one in the photo is doing.

 

Conservation Status:

State: S3S4 - Apparently secure but should be watched

Global: G5 - Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
