  Stream Bluet
            Enallagma exsulans (Hagen, 1861)

Range & Habitat:

Recorded throughout most of the state.

Most commonly found along streams and rivers where it can be abundant at times.

Description:

A medium sized Bluet with a mostly black abdomen with blue apical rings. The characteristic blue tip has S9 all blue and S8&10 blue ventrally and black dorsally.  The postocular spots are small and triangular and separated by a small occipital bar.

The most common of the "black abdomen" bluets, it is the standard for comparison with Turquoise Bluet, Slender Bluet and Attenuated Bluet.

 

Conservation Status:

State: S5 - Demonstrably secure in the state

Global: G5 - Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
